Etang Brulant is proud and happy to bring you the first release of a fresh duo, formed by the french sound engineer and composer Ida, and the french-serbian comedian and vocalist Anna Bozovic. Strongly linked, in many ways, to the awful year our world is passing by, this 3-track project is a mesmerizing tale about the fear of future, and the helplessness one can be facing at any time of its life. The incapacity to seize the opportunity of an evolution - like watching seasons go by in the painful outfit of the spectator, the passive viewer who can’t do anything. « Le Ciel Rouge » (meaning « The Red Sky » in french) is also an ecological reflexion about the stressful and harrowing direction our mother earth is taking, and the unstoppable destruction of things, parcels, woods, or soils.
The personal and highly-poetic aspect of the project expressed through the metaphorical lyrics of Anna Bozovic - which addresses directly to the auditor (« You ») while speaking to un unknown entity, which can be a person or the fear itself - give to the subject a paradoxal and fascinating dimension. Throughout the listening, the fear is becoming a charming and poisonous dancer, and a delicate voice is floating above parched lands in a sky saturated with red smokes, taking us from nightmares to dreams in a fraction of second. Whispers are slowly turning into distant screams, invoking strange forces and the spiritual essence of the speechless stars high above our heads.
While speaking to the artists, it appeared that the musical creation of Ida has been influenced by a trip he did in Chile in the city of Chaitén, a small town partly destroyed in 2008 by a volcanic eruption (the artwork photography has been taken on the Chaitén volcano by himself in 2019). His encounter with the inhabitants of the city, who rebuild their homes without governmental support, marked him as they presented Chaitén as a place of serenity - despite the drama that occurred and the forced evacuation they had to face. The fire was also an element frequently evoked by Anna, as an injonction and a threat to stop our activities and look around to see what’s really going on around us. The fear of flames, a devouring wildfire or a big explosion which could disintegrate everything into dust.
Animistic beliefs can also be found in the stupendous and ritualistic composition of Ida, created with percussions and delicate resonances. The subtile modification of the voice and the tiny details interspersed all along the project, always accompanied in a wonderful ocean of reverberation, are flirting with noisy arrangements and a very precise glitch work, managing to associate a specific range of electronic music to traditional inspirations. The whole release is a like a heartbeat shared by two human beings, according their pace together, helped by the sound of elements surrounding them. A last season before the end of hope, a last musical eruption « before the sky turns from grey to red ».
